WEE Directive
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) imposes the responsibility for the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) on the manufacturers of such equipment.
Klaxon Signals has begun marking their products with the ‘Wheelie Bin’ logo (shown below) to indicate to users that these products should not be disposed of through the normal waste system. Instead they have to be separately collected and sent to approved recycling or disposal operators for safe recycling, recovery or reuse.

Klaxon Signals provides a free collection and disposal service for all WEEE labelled products within the UK.
We are registered with the UK Environment Agency under unique reference number WEE/GA0146QT. In accordance with the requirements of the WEEE directive, we are obliged to register with a “compliance scheme” which undertakes the physical collection and recycling of WEEE labelled products and are currently registered with a compliance scheme called ‘B2B Compliance’.
End users of a Klaxon product seeking to recycle the goods should get in contact with B2B Compliance via their website www.b2bcompliance.org.uk and follow their online instructions.
Information for recyclers and reclamation organisations
Klaxon’s products generally contain the following four sets of components:
- White and Red plastic components are all V0 (UL94) or V2 (UL94) PC/ABS or ABS plastic. Clear plastic components are all V0 (UL94) or V2 (UL94) polycarbonate plastic.
- The metal fixings used in the majority of Klaxon products are Nickel plated stainless steel or Zinc plated stainless steel.
- The PCB material is an FR4 rated glass filled epoxy which incorporates Tetra-Bromo-BisPhenol A (TBBPA) flame retardant.
- The surface mount and through-hole components attached to the pCB are all commercially obtainable standard electronic components. Currently the electronic components, PCB and attaching solder are all within RoHS specifications.
RoSH Compliance
The Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union. The RoHS directive which took effect on July 1, 2006 restricts the use of six hazardous materials in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment.
RoHS is often referred to as the lead-free directive, but it restricts the use of the following six substances:
- Lead
- Mercury
- Cadmium
- Hexavalent chromium
- Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
As a result the directive affects businesses which manufacture, sell, distribute and recycle, electrical and electronic equipment which contain the above subtances.
At Klaxon Signals we believe it is important to comply with the directive and we aim to eliminate all banned subtances from our manufactured products.
Products covered under the RoHS Directive are:
Sonos sounders, beacons and sounder-beacons
Nexus sounders and sounder-beacons
Sirens – Masterblaster, Super M, Mono72, Duplo, Mini Mono P
Flashguard beacons
Flashguard security alarm sounders
Buzzers – Flat Top buzzers, P40, P60

Environmental Policy
Klaxon is committed in its quest to reduce the organisations impact on both the local and global environment to a level that is as low as practicable. This will be achieved by the minimisation of resource usage and waste disposal regarding product manufacture, (through the development of more ‘environmentally friendly’ product), and also by the efficient and effective use of energy, consumables, packaging and equipment within the organisation to the benefit of its workforce and the general wellbeing of the community.
